Learn about the application process

Steps to applying for scholarships through the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation: (PDF version)
1. Prior to starting, read the “Information Needed to Apply” and gather the appropriate information for completing your online application.

2. Log on to the online application and create a profile.

3. Enter as much information into the application as possible. The more information you provide the more information the selection committee has to make a great choice.

  • Some questions may seem redundant or irrelevant, but are used in determining your eligibility for scholarships and must be completed.
  • You may log out and log back in at any time, but be sure your application is completed by April 1st.

4. If you choose to apply for scholarships based on need, try to complete your FAFSA and have your Student Aid Report (SAR) saved as a PDF prior to submitting. Applications without this information will not be considered for need-based scholarships at the Community Foundation.

5. Letters of Recommendations:  Before you submit your application you will need to supply email addresses for three references. You may not use your guidance counselor as a reference. Have your references add sjoseph@community-foundation.com.

6. There is an option to save your application as a draft if you wish to come back and edit it later. Once you hit submit you will no longer be able to make changes. Once you are satisfied with your application, submit your application by pressing SUBMIT at the end of the form. You will then receive a confirmation email saying your application has been submitted, if you do not receive this email within 24 hours please contact Shelly Joseph at 419-425-1100.

7. You will receive an email for each scholarship you are eligible and have applied for. If you are eligible for 5 scholarships, you will receive 5 emails, if you are eligible for 12 scholarships, you will receive 12 emails. You should begin receiving these emails on April 9, 2012.

8. Read each scholarship email carefully. There may be additional information, or an essay required. All additions will need to be attached no later than April 15th. If you choose not to complete the additional requirements, your application will be withdrawn from that scholarship.

a. Transcripts: Graduating seniors will need to provide his/her high school guidance counselor’s email address (Hancock County Guidance Counselors are listed on the “Information Needed to Apply“) so they can attach your official transcript to your accepted application.

b. Essays: If an essay is required, details will be provided in the email and as well as a link to attach the essay to your application. It is recommended that if you have an essay to complete, use the alphabetical list of scholarships on the Community Foundation website to research the scholarship criteria in more depth.

9. If you are a graduating senior, scholarships will be awarded at your awards banquet/scholarship ceremony at your high school. If you are a current college student, you will be notified through mail.

*NOTE:  Please be sure to completely logout of the application after saving or submitting.

Unless otherwise noted in the Individual Student Instructions; members, or children of members, of groups or organizations administering scholarships through the Community Foundation, are not eligible for that scholarship.
