More Than Luck

With St. Patrick's Day just around the corner, the holiday brings green clothing, shamrocks and making our own luck to mind. While finding a four-leaf clover might be a matter of chance, we at The Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation believe that much of what we love about our community is the result of something far more meaningful: our collective dedication and care for one another.
We're fortunate to live in Hancock County. It's a place where people wave hello, neighbors help one another, and we come together to address common problems. While we’re not without our challenges – no community is – there is strength in our shared values and commitment to creating brighter tomorrows.
This "luck" of living here isn’t given to us. It’s cultivated by countless individuals who generously give their time, talent and treasure. It’s the volunteer who spends hours serving, the business owner who sponsors the youth sports team, and the person who offers a helping hand to a neighbor in need.
Here are just a few of the unique aspects of our community, things that make us lucky to be part of Hancock County:
- The Family Center: This community center serves as a support hub for individuals and families in Hancock County. It demonstrates our collective support for the wellbeing of our friends, families and neighbors, ensuring they have what they need to thrive.
- Dale Dorney's Vision: We are fortunate to have individuals like the late L. Dale Dorney, whose vision and dedication have played a huge role in our community. His commitment, and that of the many donors who follow in his footsteps, to improving the lives of others embodies the generosity that defines our city.
- A Giving Spirit: Perhaps most importantly, there is a culture of giving here. From the smallest acts of kindness to the most significant philanthropic endeavors, this is a cornerstone of our community. It’s the understanding that we are all interconnected and a rising tide lifts all ships.
We are lucky to live in a place where community matters. Caring for our neighbors is not just an ideal but a reality. So as you celebrate, take a moment to appreciate the "luck" surrounding us – the luck of living in a community that cares. And let’s continue nurturing the culture of giving, ensuring that future generations find their four-leaf clover right here at home.
