Go Back to Filtered List | Search AgainThe Herbert A. and Clara Rickeard Mahler Family Scholarship was established by Dr. Herbert A. Mahler and his family in memory of Clara Rickeard Mahler. Clara grew up in Akron, Ohio and earned her R.N. degree from Akron City Hospital’s Idabelle Firestone School of Nursing, where she was a labor and delivery nurse.
Herb completed his undergraduate studies at The Ohio State University in 1952, and then received his Medical Degree from OSU in 1956. Dr. Mahler completed his Medical Residency at Akron City Hospital, where he and Clara met, as well as a fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. Clara and Herb married in 1962 and moved to Findlay in 1963, at which time Herb established his private medical practice. Clara enjoyed being a mother, grandmother, and volunteer, as well as being a nurse in her husband’s office. Herb and Clara have three children: Charles, Martha and Ruth. The couple was married for 53 years prior to Clara’s passing in March of 2015.
The purpose of this fund is to assist a Hancock County graduate who is pursuing a career in the medical field.
Standards for Determining Eligibility
- The applicant must be a graduating senior of OR graduate of a state-chartered public or private school located within Hancock County.
- The applicant must be an undergraduate student at an accredited technical institution or a two or four-year college or university.
- The applicant must be pursuing a career in the medical field.
- Applicant must be a citizen of the United States of America.
- The applicant must have maintained a cumulative 3.0 GPA or above while in high school/the most recently completed grading period.
- Financial need may be a consideration.
- Any student who receives a full scholarship that includes all of the fees normally payable by policy of the Community Foundation will not qualify for this Scholarship.
