Douglas T. Akers was born in 1964 in Washington, D.C. In 1984, he married Vaune, and they had two sons, Adam and Tyler. Doug served as a Findlay Police Officer from 1991-2018 and was named Officer of the Year in 2012. He was also a member of the Findlay F.O.P. Lodge #20.
Doug had a deep affinity for the outdoors, being an avid hunter and hiker. His greatest love was his love and devotion to his family, as well as his service to his community.
This scholarship was established by Doug's family to support a graduate of a Hancock County school who is the child of a law enforcement officer or first responder.
Standards for Determining Eligibility
- The applicant must be a graduating senior or graduate of Hancock County Schools.
- The applicant must be a child of law enforcement or first responder.
- The applicant must plan to be a full or part-time student enrolled for their first year at an accredited technical, two-year, or four-year institution.
- Applicant must be a citizen of the United States of America.
- The applicant must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
- Applicant must demonstrate participation in church activities.
- Any student who receives a full scholarship that includes all the fees normally payable by policy of The Community Foundation will not qualify for this Scholarship.
This scholarship is not able to award scholarships in the 2024 cycle. Stay tuned for future scholarship cycles.
